The 2016 Rio Olympic Games was one for the ages for Team USA. Historic “first” medals, American and Olympic records and a deluge of newfound medals in the middle- and long-distance events marked a dominating U.S. performance.
Rupp wins bronze in Olympic marathon to give Team USA best medal count in 84 years
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -- 2012 Olympic 10,000m silver medalist Galen Rupp (Portland, Oregon) went the distance at the Rio Olympic Games, winning bronze in the men’s marathon to become just the fifth American man to medal in the marathon this century. Rupp, who finished fifth last week in the 10,000m final, coasted through the closing steps of the Sambódromo to finish his second career marathon in 2:10:05.

Triple gold for Centrowitz and relays, stunning silver for Chelimo
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -- A continuation of Team USA’s stunning distance success teamed with traditional relay dominance Saturday night at Olympic Stadium as Matthew Centrowitz and the 4x400m relays won from the front. Paul Chelimo of the U.S. Army, meanwhile, won a silver medal in the 5000m, briefly lost it, then had it restored. By the end of the night, Team USA had pushed its medal total to 31, and Allyson Felix earned her ninth, tying her as the most-decorated female track athlete in Olympic history.
Taylor DeLoach didn’t waste any time letting people know she would be a dominant force in track and field at St. Vincent’s and her club team On Your Mark Sports. As a freshman, she won region titles in three events and was state runner-up in the long jump. She established new state records in the long jump and the 200 and captured six state titles during her sophomore and junior years. Her athletic abilities carried her to a top-10 ranking at the 2015 New Balance National Outdoor meet and a top-three finish in the 2015 Junior Olympic Games. Her accomplishments earned a scholarship to Ohio State University. .
