USATF Georgia News & Notes - 7/15/14

In Memoriam:

Olympian Alice Marie Coachman was the first black woman to win a gold medal. She specialized in the high jump and won a gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games in London in the high jump, setting a record of 5-feet-6 1/8 inches. Ms. Coachman died Monday, July 14, 2014, at the age of 90.

The Georgia Association is saddened by the loss of "one of our own". Ms. Coachman was from Albany, GA and was inducted into the USATF Georgia Association Hall of Fame Class of 2011.

A great loss.  Our sympathy and prayers go out to the family of Alice Marie Coachman.
